Chris Marano is offering a three-part series focusing on an herbal-oriented understanding of the immune system and what it needs to stay strong, resilient, and intelligent. It includes a materia medica-focus on outstanding, favorite herbal (and mushroom) medicines. The first class is a tutorial on lymph-immune physiology while the second and third classes focus on the individual herbs.

Classes are recorded. In addition to viewing the class “live,” registered viewers will also receive a link to the recording and chat responses as well as a pdf attachment file detailed herb information.

Class 1

January 23: Understanding the Immune System: In this first class, Chris explains the intricacies of the immune system, and what it takes to keep it healthy, resilient, intelligent in its function. He will discuss the various herb categories that help to keep the different aspects and levels of the immune system functioning well, including the immune barrier, surface immune system, lymphatic Herbs, antimicrobials, strengtheners/modulators, gut health, and more.

Class 2

February 13: Herbs for Better Immunity (Part 1): There will be many herbs discussed (listed below) benefiting the immune system. Chris’s focus will be on their immune-enhancing properties even though the herbs are diverse in their functions and go beyond being exclusively lymph-immune herbs.

Class 3

February 27: Herbs for Better Immunity (Part 2): Continuing in the same vein from the previous class, Chris profiles more of his go-to immune system-enhancing herbs.

Biography: Chris Marano, RH, MA, BS, is a clinical and community herbalist of Western, Chinese, and First Nation healing traditions, with a health-care practice in the Pioneer Valley of Massachusetts since 1995. He is a registered herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild, teaches Topics in Herbalism at the University of Massachusetts.

As founder-director-head instructor of Clearpath School of Herbal Medicine, Chris is dedicated to the teaching of herbalism, holistic health, and Earth-based wisdom and sustainability. Through Clearpath, Chris provides health and wellness consultations and custom-blended herbal preparations. His new second herbal venture, Chrysalis Botanicals (, will offer time-tested herbal formulas for many health conditions, starting with the popular remedy, Lyme Aid. 

Chris has over thirty years of experience as a teacher of Buddhist/Taoist-based meditation, psychology and philosophy. He holds bachelors and master degrees in pre-medicine, Chinese philosophy-spirituality and science education from Columbia University, a graduate herbal degree from the Herbal Therapeutics School of Botanic Medicine, Chinese Buddhist and Taoist training from the Chan Center of NYC, Cherokee and Anishinaabe medicine training from First Nation elders and teachers, and training and experience in Somatic Experiencing trauma therapy; all of which he weaves into his consultations and teaching.
